A fantastic set of 9ct gold cuflfinks set with garnet, citrine, amethyst and green paste. They are unusually connected by gold dog clips which means you can exchange the garnet and citrine ends for a different colour combination.
I cannot be certain that the terminals and dog clips started life together but they look like they have been partners for some time. The loops at the back of the cufflinks are stamped with a maker’s mark that I have not been able to identify. The other marks are worn and illegible sadly apart from one “9” at the beginning of a mark which I would assume would be 9ct. The dog clips also have illegible marks but a clear date letter “P”. Without an assay office mark, it is hard to be certain which year this signals. I cannot see a London date letter mark that fits but if Birmingham, they may have been assured in 1864, or Chester, in 1898. If so, the dog clips predate the gem set ends as I would stylistically date these to around the 1930s. I haven’t seen anything like them anywhere!
They are in great condition with a few tiny bites to the stones and light age-related wear to the gold. The amethyst has natural inclusions/fissues which are not surface-reaching.
The gemstone ends vary slightly in size -
