Pinchbeck is a brass alloy that was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck in the early 18th century. It was used to imitate high carat gold and does the job very well. It was replaced in the mid-19th century by other materials such as rolled gold.
This beautiful example dates to the early 19th century, its rolo links extremely wearable and versatile.
It has a fabulous length of 60” / 152cm and can be worn long, double or tripled around the neck - I have a large head and can get it round three times.
It doesn’t have a clasp but one could easily be added if so desired by a good jeweller.
It’s in great antique condition. The join of each link is visible but this is just the way it was made (see photos). It’s a great look of high carat gold for a fraction of the price!
